Oommen Chandy wants Sudheeran ousted
Thiruvananthapuram: The ultimate aim of former chief minister Oommen Chandy is to oust KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran and capture the party chief’s post. “He feels that Mr Sudheeran has failed to lead the party from the front,” according to a KPCC general secretary.
Mr Chandy has been demanding the reorganisation of the party in the state knowing well that the AICC will not do it for the sake of appeasing him. Therefore, he has been keeping off party programmes and attending unofficial ones ever since his group was sidelined in the appointments of DCC presidents.
Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony had asked the AICC to hold talks with a sulking Chandy. But it is certain that the AICC will not reconsider the appointments of DCC presidents.
Mr Chandy is firm in his stand on holding organisational elections knowing it will not take place in the near future so as to get Mr Sudheeran's ousted, it is said. Mr Sudheeran had taken over as PCC chief on February 10, 2014 though Mr Chandy had wanted former speaker G. Karthikeyan to get that post. But Mr Sudheeran has not risen to the occasion, though Mr Chandy never disapproved of Mr Sudheeran’s actions in public.
A leader belonging to the ‘A’ camp and member of the Political Affairs Committee opined that Mr Chandy should be made a member of the Central Working Committee. But this is unlikely soon as the next AICC session is a long way off.
