Group tussle to list Kerala DCC leaders

Congress sources said that Chennithala wanted all his group leaders to join hands to thwart the supremacy of the 'A' group.

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress netas are desperately trying be in the good books of AICC leaders who are wrapping up appointments of DCC presidents. Though 'A' and 'I' factions of the party may not be able to share 50 per cent seats this time if the AICC puts its foot down against factionalism, it is learnt that both the groups have submitted a draft list on the appointments to be made.

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala, during his recent trip to New Delhi had apprised Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader A.K. Antony and AICC general secretary in charge of state Mukul Wasnik on the need to take a final decision on the list of DCC presidents on November 10, after the Assembly session is over. However, the AICC leadership had earlier informed that they prefer to make the announcement by November 5.

A prominent Congress leader told DC that Chennithala and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is keen to see that only leaders belonging to their camp be appointed as DCC president.

“In order to appease V. M. Sudheeran, they have agreed to rope in T. N. Prathapan representing Thrissur. The remaining 13 districts will be shared by the two factions," said a Congress leader.

On Monday last, Chennithala had called for a meeting of 'I' group leaders which was also attended by UDF convener P. P. Thankachan, MLA’s K. Muraleedharan and V. D. Satheeshan and MP’s M. I. Shahnavas and K. C. Venugopal.

Congress sources said that Chennithala wanted all his group leaders to join hands to thwart the supremacy of the 'A' group. The same phenomenon is being practiced by the 'A' group as well.
