AP govt exploiting patta holders: TD leaders

VISAKHAPATNAM: Former TD MLAs Palla Srinivasa Rao and Gandi Babji alleged that the state government was planning to reap financial benefits from the house sites distributed by the TD government during the 2014-2019 tenure. The government is asking for fresh re-registration of these pattas.

Addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, Palla Srinivasa Rao said the TD government regularised 60,000 pattas under GO Nos 296, 301 and 388. He said geo-tagging of these sites has been completed. The entire process was completed in a most transparent way and they were to be automatically set for registration after two years from the date of issue.

“The government has to recognise that the pattas were given under deed of reconveyance,’’ Srinivasa Rao said. He wondered why the government was seeking fresh user charges and patta valuation. He said the government was planning to collect money from two lakh beneficiaries who were given free pattas across the state by the TD government.

Citing an earlier example, Srinivasa Rao said the Congress government under the leadership of Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy gave pattas to people in 2008 but TD never sought deeds of reconveyance.

He said 2,000 pattas from Gajuwaka area were sent to the sub-registrar office for registration but the beneficiaries were told to submit the papers at the Sachivalayams.

Visakhapatnam South in charge of TD and former MLA Gandi Babji said the registration of assigned lands was being done under the surveillance of the YSRC leaders.

Visakhapatnam East MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu said the High Court has already issued orders to register the lands which were given by TD under GO No 296 to 60,000 beneficiaries.
