Tamil Nadu: DMK, Congress members stage walkout

Soon, all the DMK MLAs stood up and walked out of the House led by Mr Stalin.

CHENNAI: DMK on Thursday made a vain bid to raise the issue of alleged horse-trading of AIADMK MLAs, for the second day, and staged a walkout from the Assembly House along with its allies.

A day after he was evicted along with 86 other MLAs for raising slogans and demanding that the TV expose on the alleged cash-for-votes scam be raised on the floor, Mr Stalin tried to raise the issue again.

But the Speaker P. Dhanapal said he had already given his ruling on this matter on Wednesday that it could not be discussed as it was sub-judice. Also, it was based on TV reports.

Attempting to raise the matter, Mr. Stalin said the Assembly rules only disallowed “expression of opinion” in an ongoing court case and tried to seek the nod of the chair for a discussion.

Mr. Dhanapal, however, did not yield. Soon, all the DMK MLAs stood up and walked out of the House led by Mr Stalin.

The Congress Legislature Party Leader K.R. Ramasamy said their party too walked out. The lone IUML member K A M Muhammad Abubacker followed suit.
