Amit Shah praises Kerala BJP leadership, sets goal for 2019 polls

An emergency core committee meeting will be held here on Thursday to discuss Mr Shah's programme in Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP state leadership is euphoric after the central BJP leadership appreciated their achievements in the Assembly elections. National president Amit Shah is now setting their goal for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Shah is expected here on June 23 to evaluate their performance, and the central leaders will huddle together for their national executive in Kozhikode September 23–25.

An emergency core committee meeting will be held here on Thursday to discuss Mr Shah’s programme in Kerala. Before his arrival, state president Kummanam Rajasekharan is expected to revamp the state committee, after several years.

District presidents and secretaries, recently appointed, would not see any changes, though.

The recently concluded national executive meeting at Allahabad, where state elections were discussed, felt that if the organisational setup were strengthened, the party could have fared better.

“Despite Mr Rajasekran replacing V. Muraleedharan (ahead of state elections), the latter was remote-controlling preparations,” a senior leader said.

It is reliably learnt that former State president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai had met organising secretary Ramlal in New Delhi, before the national executive, and complained against senior leaders like him being sidelined for more than six years.

Targeting Mr Muraleedharan’s high-handedness ever since he took charge in 2010, he also gave a list of victimised leaders.
