TRS, YSR Congress yet to get invite for Opposition meet
Hyderabad: A day after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi wrote to all UPA allies and non-NDA parties for a meeting on May 23 — a move aimed at strengthening opposition unity and to checkmate the Narendra Modi-led NDA — both YSR Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti sources on Wednesday said they have not received any invitation so far.
Moreover, even if they do receive such an invitation personally from Mrs Gandhi, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao will not be attending the Delhi meet, their respective party sources said.
While YSR Congress general secretary and close associate of its president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Sajjala Rama Krishna Reddy, said no such invitation had been received, a close associate of Mr Rao, B. Vinod Kumar, MP, also said the same.
Congress sources said that apart from sending the invitations, Mrs Gandhi will speak personally on the phone to the important leaders and invite them.
She spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday.
Sources in the YSRC and the TRS said that their respective presidents will not be attending the Delhi meeting even if Mrs Gandhi calls them personally as both have some reservations about meeting her and supporting the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance.
A senior YSRC leader said that the Congress has damaged the image of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy by implicating him in false cases.
