MK Stalin slams Venkaiah Naidu for praising Jayalalithaa
Chennai: Accusing Union minister Venkaiah Naidu of sharing dais with corrupt AIADMK leaders and praising former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa found guilty in a disproportionate assets case by the Supreme Court, leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Monday said the BJP is adopting double standards in opposing corruption.
Venkaiah's praise for Jayalalithaa showed the true face of the BJP on the issue of corruption, he said and added that the party which claims to eradicate corruption, is taking different stand on the issue in different states. The BJP had mortgaged its slogan of eradicating corruption for selfish motives and the dual role of the saffron party was exposed in the metro rail function on Sunday, he alleged.
Venkaiah also came in sharp attacks from TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar for his comments during the function that if the state performed, the centre would cooperate. Venkaiah's warning “Our co-operation depends on your operations. Otherwise there will be separation” is against federalism and democracy, he said.
The Union minister's speech showed that the Centre wanted to keep the AIADMK government as its puppet. “Can a state government say the same opinion against the Centre?” the Congress leader asked.
Joining issue with Venkaiah Naidu, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss flayed the Union minister's participation in the review meeting of the state government and said such a practice was not followed in the state earlier. He also asked “Will any other state allow this?”
