Kummanam to face case, warns Pinarayi Vijayan

Mr Vijayan said that the recent murder should be considered and as an isolated incident.

Thiruvananthapuram: A case might be registered against BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan for posting a misleading video on the social media alleging that the CPM activists had celebrated the recent murder of a BJP activist in Kannur.

This was stated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly on Monday. Replying to an adjournment motion on the murder, the chief minister opposed the BJP's demand for implementing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Kerala. He cited the alleged excesses in Manipur following the implementation of AFSPA and the stir by Irom Sharmila. “Even children were killed and women raped by the security personnel under the cover of the Act. I don’t think the Opposition would welcome the enforcement of AFSPA in Kannur,” said Mr. Vijayan.

None knows where the CPM carried out a victory procession following the recent murder as alleged by Mr Kummanam Rajasekharan in a picture posted on the social media, he said. “The legal aspects of psting such wrong information is being examined and a case might have to be registered against him in this connection,” he said.

While Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala flayed the BJP’s criticism against the Governor for not acting against the government, BJP’s O.Rajagopal said that the statement against the Governor should be considered only as an expression of sentiments by youngsters.

The Opposition staged a walkout after Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan denied permission for the adjournment motion notice given by Mr K.C. Joseph, Congress. Kerala Congress (M) and BJP staged a walkout over the Kannur murder.

Mr Vijayan said that the recent murder should be considered and as an isolated incident and that the CPM local leadership had stated that they had no role in the incident. The incident would not affect the peace move s initiated in Kannur in February. The police would bring those involved in the murder before the law, he said.

Mr Ramesh Chennithala alleged that even when peace talks were being carried out, the CPM was making bombs and weapons. Mr. Rajagopal alleged that the CPM was trying to curb the freedom of other political parties to function in the state.
