Chennai: The BJP appears to be elated over superstar Rajinikanth dropping enough hints that he may take a political plunge. But, accepting him as TN BJP’s mascot may mean the crashing of hopes of few leaders who nurse the ambition of becoming the CM candidate in the next Assembly polls.
According to sources, the BJP high command is working on a plan to prepare a solid ground for itself ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha polls. And Rajinikanth could be the game changer for the saffron party. Even during the previous Assembly elections, there was a talk of the BJP wooing the superstar and the party later clarified that it was not running behind him to gain political leverage in TN.
Nevertheless, Rajni’s proclamation on Monday while addressing his fans that he would keep away corrupt and money-minded people has made the BJP connect it with their leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and laud it as a “good beginning” for his debut in politics. Taking note of it, Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan expressed that he was “glad that his friend and superstar has emerged as a guiding force for his fans.”
“His advice to them on abstinence and care for their families should be emulated by other actors,” he added. Reacting in similar vein, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said, “I heard Rajini’s speech. I welcome his advice to the youngsters not to drink or smoke and his remarks to keep out money-minded persons.”
