UDF discards green ladder to woo youngsters
Kuttiady: It’s unprecedented to see IUML’s election symbol ‘ladder’ not in a green background. But a trip to Kuttiady assembly seat where IUML’s Parakkal Abdulla (UDF) is taking on sitting MLA K.K. Lathika (LDF) presents a surprise picture.
Almost all the posters of UDF candidate are in colours other than green. The symbol appears in yellow, blue, pink and red, but a few in green. “It’s not a deliberate move. Though green is mostly used by IUML as the colour of the party flag, we are not averse to other colours. Moreover, it is professionally designed to draw the attention of young generation,” says Soopy Narikkatteri, IUML leader and president of Nadapuram grama panchayat.
The UDF banners are adorning each nook and cranny of the constituency, including in the red strongholds like Maniyur and Kunnummal. “Our aim is to garner votes from as many people. So, preparing posters are for that purpose. Nowadays, people like aesthetic designs and bright colours,” said Mr Abdulla, the candidate. An IUML source said that unlike in the past, UDF is taking all its weapons in its armoury out as it believes a united effort could wrest Kuttiady from LDF.
