Rajini, Kamal carry EVMs' to polling booths

On Sunday, two donkeys named Rajini' and Kamal' carried electronic voting machines (EVMs').

Dharmapuri: In this hi-tech era, donkeys’ carry voting machine and poll materials to the remote Kottur hills Pennagram assembly constituency in Dharmapuri district.

On Sunday, two donkeys named ‘Rajini’ and ‘Kamal’ carried electronic voting machines (EVMs’) and other polling materials to Kottur hills, which has no roads but only a rugged path uphill.

Their owner C. Chinnasamy, a washerman of Karagur village in Pennagaram taluk, guided the officials to reach Kottur. The hilly hamlet has 173 male and 152 female voters waiting to cast their votes in their booth

Chinnasamy said that two more donkeys named ‘Vijay’ and ‘Ajith’ transport EVMs’ for Eriyur malai also in Pennagaram Assembly constituency. He further said that ECI has accepted to pay '2, 000 for each donkey engaged in the election work.

In Emmallur in Dharmapuri district, usually donkeys are used to transport voting machines. However, this time, as a tar road has been laid the EVMs’ were transported in a jeep.

In Krishnagiri, donkeys were used for transporting election materials to Ekkalnatham village in Veppanahalli assembly constituency, which has more than 200 voters.
