BJP to hold 200 events as part of Modi govt's 2nd anniversary

The Prime Minister has repeatedly asked the party's lawmakers to spend more time among people to publicise his government's programmes.

New Delhi: BJP will organise over 200 events during a fortnight-long public outreach programme from May 26, the day the Modi government completes two years in office, with its MPs and MLAs spending time with people publicising its achievements.

The party said, besides MPs and MLAs, all its office bearers will take part in the events which will include public meetings, intellectual conventions, press conferences and interactions with beneficiaries of the government's welfare schemes.

Its media department head Shrikant Sharma said that the idea behind the events was to spread the word about the government's measures aimed at the uplifting the stature of common man.

The Prime Minister has repeatedly asked the party's lawmakers to spend more time among people to publicise his government's programmes.

All the Lok Sabha MPs have been asked to spend a day and night in every assembly segment of their constituency, while MLAs will be spending seven nights in their seat, Sharma said.

As part of preparations, the party will hold a workshop for spokespersons from across the country where Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, both former party chiefs, will address them.

The two-week long exercise will be second such mega publicity drive. The party had also actively taken part in the government's 'Gramoday se Bharat Uday' held between April 14 and 24.

Social media will also be put to use in a big way, he said, adding the party will hold a preparatory exercise for its IT volunteers on May 22.

The "successes" of the government include the opening of over 21 crore Jandhan accounts, benefits to over 3.3 crore families under the Mudra scheme, besides a number of welfare measures, including crop insurance, life and health insurance, pension scheme, among others, he said.
