Chennai: All is set for polling on Monday. All the 1.72 lakh Electronic Voting Machines have reached the 66,007 booths in 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu for polling that begins at 7 am and ends at 5 pm.

Collectors of all 32 districts reviewed the preparations on Sunday at their respective headquarters to ensure hassle-free and fair polls. Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni also reviewed poll preparation from his office in Chennai and instructed all district collectors to be on alert.

An estimated 5.82 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise to seal the fate of 3,740 candidates in 233 constituencies across the state. Elections to Aravakurichi constituency in Karur district will be held on May 23 after Election Commission postponed the polling citing huge flow of money.

The polling would begin at 7 am and end at 5 pm, while the votes polled on Monday would be taken up for counting on May 19. CRPF and other security agencies have taken control of the polling booths and proceedings at every booth will be video recorded.

To ensure free and fair polls the EC has deployed over 23,000 Central Police Forces in Tamil Nadu while another 12,000 of these forces have been deployed in Kerala. This is a three-fold increase in the Central Forces as compared to the 2011 Assembly elections.
