Only five beneficiaries for 15,600 2 BHK houses in Kollur

KCR to hand over houses to beneficiaries

HYDERABAD: The state government has identified only five beneficiaries for the 15,600 double bedroom houses constructed in Kollur in Sangareddy district, according to official sources. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will hand over only 5 2BHK houses to the beneficiaries and the remaining will be distributed later, it is learnt.

The progress of 25 2BHK houses are at stake with the enhanced utility prices. Once Rs 400 crore pending bills are cleared, the contractors would walk out of the project, said the officials.

According to highly placed sources, district authorities in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal–Malkajgiri and Sangareddy have received four lakh applications from the beneficiaries for 1 lakh 2BHK houses. Over a span of seven years, the state government has distributed over 4,000 double bedroom houses. The government has so far managed to complete construction of 65,000 houses and another 10,000 dwelling units are nearing completion. If `400 crore pending bills are released, the private agencies would hand over them to the civic body, who in turn will hand over them to district authorities to distribute to the eligible beneficiaries.

However, sources said the private agencies would walk out of the project if the pending bills were paid. With enhanced steel and cement prices, the agencies made it clear that they could not go ahead with the projects with increased prices. Construction of 5,000 dwelling units is at stake as no agency is coming forward to take up the project.

As far as the Kollur project is concerned, officials informed that the Chief Minister would only hand over five double bedroom houses during the inaugural event and district authorities have not even identified beneficiaries for 15,595 dwelling units. Authorities informed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), electricity department and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) working in tandem and giving final touches to the project making it ready for the Chief Minister’s inauguration.
