TRS to follow protocol on defection
Hyderabad: To accommodate Congress defectors, the TRS leadership will follow the policy which was adopted earlier in the Legislative Council in merging Congress MLCs into the ruling party. This is expected to happen after meeting its target of depriving the Congress of its main Opposition status in the Assembly. All defecting Congress MLCs had met and decided to merge with the TRS Legislature Party in the Council, after the recently Assembly elections.
They submitted their decision to Council chairman A. Swamy Goud and later announced the merger of the Congress MLCs group into the TRS. To avoid disqualification of the defecting MLAs, the same procedure will be followed in the Assembly as well, sources said. So far, eight Congress MLAs have decided to join the TRS. The TRS expects some more legislators to follow suit. Congress MLAs are announcing their decision to join the TRS after meeting party working president K.T. Rama Rao or Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. At the same time, Congress MLAs are announcing that they are ready to resign and seek the people’s verdict afresh.
