Oomen Chandy may eventually be PCC chief, believe leaders

It is known that the AICC leadership is still keen on holding talks with state leaders before announcing the permanent president.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state Congress leaders are eagerly awaiting the AICC announcement on new PCC chief. If the decision is to announce an acting president, it may come this week itself. If not, then a permanent president would be announced at a later date. It is known that the AICC leadership is still keen on holding talks with state leaders before announcing the permanent president.

Even as race for PCC chief hots up, Congress leaders belonging to both 'I' and 'A' camps have begun lobbying for their respective men. However, it is generally believed that former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will eventually be appointed as the new PCC chief. Chandy, meanwhile, is hard on ensuring his concurrence with V. M. Sudheeran and is still firm in his stand that organisational elections should be held, so that he can become KPCC president through organisational elections.

"Chandy is ensuring his berth by projecting KPCC vice president M. M. Hassan as the temporary PCC chief. The 'A' camp does not want to lose their power by giving the post to their rival 'I' camp which has forced them to pass the buck before the AICC leadership", said a Congress leader to DC.

In fact, few Congress leaders expressed their apprehension on Chandy - Chennithala camps hogging power since the last 15 years. They point out that neither of these senior leaders was able to stall the growth of the BJP in the State.

"It is high time these senior leaders take a retreat and try to bring in a second line of Congress leaders. AICC leadership has to find remedial measures to remove the current crop of leaders so that the next generation leaders get a new lease of life", said another Congress leader.

Ever since Sudheeran decided to call it quits on March 10, the aspirants have been eager to leave for New Delhi to stake their claims before the AICC leadership. But they are taking a 'wait and watch' policy and the flood gates will open once the AICC leadership decides to initiate talks with the senior leaders in New Delhi.
