BJP to wait for clarity on ties
Chennai: With massive exercise of interviewing the party ticket aspirants for the Assembly election over, the BJP is facing a strange predicament. It is waiting for ‘clarity’ on the poll ties before announcing its candidates for the May poll.
“Efforts are still on to forge electoral alliance with a few parties. There will be clarity on the issue of alliance only after the talks conclude. Thereafter the list of our candidates for the Assembly election will be formally announced,” a BJP senior said. Without naming the parties with which the saffron party is engaged in parleys, he said the BJP has never announced that it would go it alone in this election. “We will put up a unified fight with whoever joins our combine,” he added.
“We are prepared to contest from all the 234 seats…our efforts in ensuring a viable alternative will get strengthened if parties join our combine without fussing about the choice of chief ministerial candidate at this juncture,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said. Asserting that the two-day state wide interviews of the MLA aspirants, which concluded on Monday went well and that encouraging feedback was obtained from the candidates, BJP state vice president Vanathi Srinivasan said the BJP has completed the entire process of selecting the candidates and is now all set to launch the election work. “Whether there will be alliance or not the BJP has to contest the polls and accordingly we have geared up our machinery,” she emphasised.
The interview sessions have been more democratic in the BJP and the candidates conveyed the ground realities on facing the electoral battle. “We explored in-depth about our winning prospects with regard to each and every constituency,” Ms Vanathi added.
