PM visit: Collector checks security measures in Auroville

The Prime Minister will later attend the golden jubilee celebrations at the Auroville Auditorium.

Villupuram: Villupuram district collector L. Subramanian visited Auroville on Thursday to check the security measures to be arranged ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24.

The collector who visited Auroville along with senior police officers and other administrators of the district reviewed preparedness to host the PM and visited the spots where he is proposed to attend the programme as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of Auroville.

According to reports, the Prime Minister will be reaching Auroville by a helicopter from Puducherry airport and the administration is planning to construct temporary helipads. As per the sources Modi will be attending a meditation session at Matir Mandir following which he will interact with the residents of Auroville at Savitri Bhavan here. The Prime Minister will later attend the golden jubilee celebrations at the Auroville Auditorium.

The district collector along with senior superintendent of police Jaya Kumar and Suresh Kumar visited the three spots and hold discussions with the officials of Auroville who were also present on the visit. The government had requested the Prime Minister to inaugurate the cargo operations at the sea port in Puducherry, and the prime minister’s office has not yet confirmed it.

A high-level inter departmental meeting to review the law and order issues and security measures ahead of the visit of Mr Modi will be held at the office of Puducherry Director General of Police on Friday.
