Mallikarjun Kharge backs move for Bahmani fest
Kalaburagi: While the BJP and some pro-Kannada organisations have come out strongly against the government's move to hold a Bahamani Utsav on March 6, senior Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday justified its decision and accused the saffron party of politicising the issue.
"The utsav is aimed at creating awareness about the art, literature and culture of the Bahmani dynasty. It is improper to oppose it. The government is also holding a Rashtrakuta Utsav. Does that mean its is appeasing Hindus and Jains?", he asked, speaking to reporters here.
The district administration led by the in-charge Minister, Sharan Prakash Patil last week decided to hold a Rashtrakuta Utsav in Malkhed, Sedam on March 4 and 5 and the Bahamani Utsav on March 6. Although Congress leaders deny the Bahamani Utsav has anything to do with the upcoming Assembly elections, its timing has raised suspicion among opposition parties.
Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy also told reporters in Bidar, "We are not celebrating the Bahmani rulers, but the art, culture and literature of their era.”
