Kannur peace meet gets a blast'

Five RSS workers were taken into custody in connection with the second incident.

Kannur: Violence has erupted in Kannur soon after the all-party peace meeting attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday.

A country-made bomb exploded in front of the house of a BJP worker in Kathirur limits early on Wednesday and a DYFI leader was kidnapped and attacked near Kudiyanmala limits later. Five RSS workers were taken into custody in connection with the second incident.

The bomb explosion followed a dispute between the CPM and BJP workers on the premises of Kunduchira temple where a festival was being held. The bomb was thrown at the house of BJP worker Nalinakshan at Pannyam, Paramkunnu.

In the afternoon, DYFI worker Puthiyakath Shakkir, 20, was abducted allegedly by five RSS workers in a jeep. He was beaten up and thrown out. The jeep was identified and five men were taken into custody, said Kudiyan-mala police.

Shakkir’s brother Siraj, a Plus-One student, had faced an attack on similar lines in August last and he was rescued by the police.
