Kannur peace meet: BJP feels CPM trying to sabotage peace initiatives

They say even though the blast was an isolated incident, it would not have happened without the knowledge of Mr Jayarajan.

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP leaders here feel the CPM’s leadership in Kannur was trying to sabotage Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s peace initiatives. A day after an all-party peace meet held there, a bomb blast occurred on Wednesday at Parayankunnu in Kadirur village, the stronghold of its district secretary P. Jayarajan, destroying a BJP worker’s home.

BJP-RSS leadership after the first round of talks held here with the CM had said they would not make provocative statements by which the cadres could be carried away.

They say even though the blast was an isolated incident, it would not have happened without the knowledge of Mr Jayarajan.

“It is very difficult to pacify and convince the BJP–RSS supporters in Kannur as the previous two political murders happened in our camp. CPM’s Kannur leadership never wants to restore peace in the region as they will lose their strength. They claim that the locals do not want us functioning in Kannur which is the dream of the CPM,” said a former BJP state president. He also alleged that the CPM local leaders were keen to see only them thriving in the region and would go to any length to eliminate BJP–RSS combine.

Mr Vijayan had taken anticipatory bail by claiming that the local workers of both parties had to ensure peace in the region, implying that the leaderships can only ask them. CPM cannot be completely blamed for the attacks as the BJP–RSS leadership also calls a hartal whenever a political murder takes place, aggravating the situation.
