Fire at mall destroys Rs 7 crore worth property

Firefighters tackle 15-hour inferno at Kamareddy's Ayyappa Shopping Mall; Disaster Management teams join the efforts

Kamareddy: A major fire accident occurred at Ayyappa Shopping Mall on Tilak Road in Kamareddy town. The blaze broke out on Wednesday midnight but the firefighters fought for 15 hours to douse it on Thursday evening.

Additional fire tenders from Nizamabad, Yellareddy, Gandhari and Ramayampet were requisitioned to extinguish the flames, which kept raging due to the clothing material.

Disaster Management Rescue Teams from Hyderabad also reached Kamareddy and took part in the firefighting. The watchmen of the mall noticed the smoke and alerted the owners on Thursday morning. The fire services and police officials evacuated the people from neighbouring buildings as a precautionary measure.

Primary estimates showed that around Rs 7 crore worth of garments in the four-storied building were gutted. Electricity short circuit might be the reason for the fire mishap, the officials suspected.
