Board for transport workers in BRS' third term: Harish
HYDERABAD: The BRS on Tuesday promised better days for autorickshaw drivers and transport sector workers by setting up a special board to handle their requirements, senior BRS leader and minister T. Harish Rao said on Tuesday. The new board will be set up if the BRS returns to power.
Addressing a meeting of representatives from 44 workers unions at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao said: “Before Telangana formation, whenever workers staged protests seeking salary or wage hikes, the then Congress governments suppressed them brutally using police power. But it is KCR who understood the needs of workers, increased their salaries. It is also KCR who did away with road tax for autos, and for tractors,” he said.
“If workers unite and help BRS win, the government will double the salaries for village assistant officers and resource persons,” he said adding that salaries in Telangana for government workers and others were higher than those paid in Congress- and BJP-ruled states.
“While Telangana is constantly looking for ways and means to improve the lives of workers at all levels, the BJP government at the Centre is selling some of the largest employers like the railways, LIC and BSNL. All the BJP knows is to sell industries and assets, and has no clue on how to create new ones,” he said.
Harish Rao said the Congress and the BJP were working together. They make it appear as if they fight in Delhi and in other places but in Telangana work together. “Leaders who were in Congress until recently are joining the BJP, and some from the BJP are joining the Congress. Where the Congress is strong, the BJP extends support, the Congress does the same where the BJP has strength,” he said.
He said people should ask themselves if they want to vote for Congress which will bankrupt Telangana, or BJP that will sell everything, or the BRS which is the only party that works for the welfare and development of Telangana and its people.
