Telangana misusing Panchayati Raj grants: Revanth Reddy

Reddy accused Telangana govt of demolishing Panchayati Raj bodies by diverting Central grants given to them and denying funds.

Hyderabad: TD working president A. Revanth Reddy on Monday in an open letter addressed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has accused the government of demolishing Panchayati Raj bodies in the state by diverting Central grants given to them and denying funds.

He said that when rules and procedures are very clear on what the Central government give as grants to Panchayati Raj Bodies as per the Constitution, Telangana government issued a circular to PR bodies to deduct electricity charges from their account and deposit the same in the government’s account which is arbitrary.

He said attempts to deduct drinking water service charges also from PR bodies and deposit in the government account is very much in the offing as per some ministers’ statements.

He alleged that even funds sanctioned for taking up watershed schemes are being diverted to the state government account without any resolution from the concerned gram panchayat.
