Suspense Continues over Congress Candidate Against KCR in Kamareddy

It was expected that Shabbir Ali\'s name would be there in the first list of candidates

Nizamabad: Suspense within the Congress continued into Sunday with regard to fielding a candidate against BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao for the Kamareddy Assembly seat. Though the AICC released its first list of candidates on Sunday, former minister Mohammad Ali Shabbir’s name was missing in it.

Shabbir Ali is the only one from the party to have applied for the Kamareddy seat. He has been relentlessly working in the constituency for the past several months. It was presumed that it would be a cakewalk for him in Kamareddy.

However, the equations have changed after Rao announced his candidature for Kamareddy apart from Gajwel. He dropped the sitting party MLA Gampa Govardhan towards this. In this context, the Congress high command has either strategically or for other reasons not announced its Kamareddy candidate.

TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy said that fighters will be pressed into service in the war in a phased manner and Shabbir Ali’s candidature will figure in the next list of party candidates.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Shabbir Ali said that he would definitely be contesting from Kamareddy, notwithstanding Rao entering the poll fray from there.

‘Let us wait till the Congress high command takes the final call’, he said.
