Congress' ticket policy shocks local aspirants
Hyderabad: To escape the high command condition of one ticket for one family, TPCC leaders have proposed some amendments to the guidelines for the AICC screening committee headed by party leader Bhakta Charan Das.
In discussions with the TPCC election committee and district unit chiefs over the selection of candidates, Mr Das categorically told them that the high command had directed the panel to strictly follow the one ticket for one family rule.
If this were to be followed, TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy’s wife Padmavathi, TPCC publicity committee chairman Komatireddy Venkata Reddy’s brother Komati-reddy Rajagopal Reddy and some others will not get tickets.
To avoid this, TPCC leaders have proposed another formula — to give tickets to all sitting MLAs in the dissolved Assembly and to those who had contested in the previous Lok Sabha elections. This will enable both Ms Padmavathi, an MLA, and Mr Rajagopal Reddy, who had unsuccessfully contested in 2014, to get tickets.
Agreeing with these proposals Mr Das told the TPCC leaders that the high command would take a final decision on this.
As candidates who contested in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Mr Ponn-am Prabhakar (Karimna-gar), Mr Balaram Naik (Mahabubabad), former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy’s son Karthik Reddy (Rajendranagar), Mr Madhu Yashki Goud (Nizamabad) will be eligible to get an Assembly ticket.
Former Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy told the AICC screening committee that he was not interested to contest the Assembly elections.
The high command has directed that the list be completed in Hyderabad, though the usual practice of the Congress is to finalise the party candidates in Delhi. If there are any problems in the selection of candidates in one or two seats, the high command will take a call. The high command has told the AICC screening committee to complete the process by October 16 and submit the final list.
