Hyderabad: Mr Reddy accused Mr Naidu of ignoring the plight of the farmers and the agriculture sector, and students who were committing suicide.
He charged Mr Naidu with “feigning the sleep of Kumbhakarna” instead of solving people’s problems.
The Oppsition leader said incessant rains had devastated all 13 districts in general and Rayalaseema in particular. Paddy, groundnut, oil seeds, cotton, onion, chilli, Bengal gram and castor farmers were in dire straits as the rain had ravaged their crops.
He said over 10 lakh acres of agricultural land had remained uncultivated this Kharif mainly because farmers could not secure loans. He said Mr Naidu had “the dubious distinction of ensuring that remunerative prices for agricultural produce did not increase for three consecutive years.”
The YSRC chief said this had sounded the death knell for farmers in the state.
