TD leader regrets his comments against assembly speaker
VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam MLA K. Atchennaidu has apologised to assembly speaker Tammineni Sitaram for making indecent comments against the latter.
Atchennaidu’s comments had come up for a discussion on Tuesday at a meeting of Andhra Pradesh Assembly Privileges Committee presided over by its chairman Kakani Govardhan Reddy. The TD MLA appeared before the Privileges Committee and expressed apology for his comments.
Earlier, Atchennaidu had submitted a written explanation to the committee. But the committee asked him to appear in person, as it was not satisfied with his written reply.
According to reports, Atchennaidu gave a lengthy explanation to the committee about his remarks against the speaker. He reportedly told the committee that the press note with his alleged remarks was released to the media inadvertently; that too without his signature. Further, he formally apologised for his remarks against the speaker and said he was withdrawing his comments.
Govardhan Reddy said since Atchennaidu has withdrawn his remarks and explained that the statement had been released inadvertently, the committee will again meet to discuss the same in detail. Thereafter, the Privileges Committee will take a decision on the matter.
Another TD leader Koona Ravikumar, who also allegedly made comments against the speaker, could not meet the committee. Ravikumar will be given another chance to appear before the committee, Govardhan Reddy stated.
