Jayalalithaa wants Rosaiah to remain as Guv

Ms Jayalalithaa has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh and conveyed her request.

Hyderabad: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has reportedly sought extension of the term of Governor K. Rosaiah, who demits office on August 30.

According to informed sources, Ms Jayalalithaa has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Rajnath Singh and conveyed her request. Their response was not immediately known, but sources indicated that it was likely they would agree to the request.

The normal practice followed by Delhi is to convey the decision on appointment of the Governor of the state in advance to its Chief Minister.

Sources said Ms Jayalalithaa has been more than satisfied with the functioning of Mr Rosaiah as the Governor of the state in the last five years, especially during the crucial period when she had to resign from the CM’s post and had her trusted lieutenant Panneer Selvam take over the reins of the state.
