Twin bypoll loss: Isolated BS Yeddyurappa slams city leaders
Bengaluru: Livid at the BJP losing the two recent elections in Jayanagar and RR Nagar Assembly constituencies in the city, BJP state chief, B.S.Yeddyurappa is reported to have given party leaders a dressing down for not making an honest effort to win the two seats.
A former member of the Legislative Council, who met Mr. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday at his Dollars Colony residence, said he was disappointed with BJP leaders in the city for not working hard enough to win the two constituencies.
“Senior leaders are now ready to pass the buck on him for losing the two Assembly elections when two months ago he toured the state and helped the party win over a 100 seats. It is the lack of cooperation from other leaders that is harming it,” said the ex-MLC.
Besides the lack of team work, “internal sabotage” may have also cost the party in Jayanagar, according to another BJP leader, who was in charge of one of the wards in the constituency during the election. “Right from the beginning BJP leaders, especially R. Ashok, did not make an honest effort to retain Jayanagar. Even when BJP corporator of Bairasandra ward, Nagaraj announced his open support for the Congress candidate, no one from the party reached out to him. The party has paid a price for the ego of few leaders,” he said. In R.R. Nagar the party had every chance to negotiate with Mr G. Ramachandra, who joined the JD(S) after the BJP denied him a ticket, but it did not, lament others in the party. “ Mr. Ashok has a good rapport with Ramachandra. In fact, Union Minister D..V. Sadananda Gowda told Ashok to pacify his former aide, but he did not bother,” they say.
