Thiruvananthapuram: The state Congress leadership plans to give proper representation to the Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and KSU in the proposed party revamp. The KPCC will hold a meeting of the state office-bearers of these organisations soon. PCC president V. M. Sudheeran, who inaugurated the Mahila Congress state executive meeting here, promised to give them suitable berths in the party.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi plans to call a meeting of senior leaders of KPCC and the feeder organisations in New Delhi by early July. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy, Mr Sudheeran and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will meet the Mahila Congress, KSU and Youth Congress leaders before their Delhi trip. Mr Sudheeran lamented that the KPCC could not field more women for the Assembly elections.
Nine women were put in the fray by the Congress and all of them were defeated. For long the women Congress leaders have been alleging that they had never been provided with winnable seats. Bindu Krishna, Mahila Congress state president, told DC that she was hopeful of suitable posts for her colleagues in the party. She also alleged that both the CPM and BJP were implementing political fascism by unleashing violence.
“We will organise a secretariat dharna on June 25 in protest against the CPM’s false promises to contain the price hike of essential goods. The LDF governmnt is yet to contain the violence,” said Ms. Bindu. She alleged that after the LDF government came to power, the price of rice had risen by Rs 5.
