Kerala Assembly Elections: The final show of extravagance

BJP workers on trucks organised milk showers on the cutouts of their state president Kummanam Rajasekharan.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a show of extravagance as the campaigns reached a crescendo in constituencies across the district. Minor scuffles between party workers erupted at Balaramapuram in Neyyatinkara constituency and Aryanad in Aruvikkara constituency.

From Saturday morning itself, the parties changed the tone and vigour of electioneering announcement. The LDF and the BJP went aggressive by listing out the inaction of the ruling front in a series of rape cases, including Perumbavoor and Nilamboor among others.

The Congress on the other hand attempted to smudge both of its rivals for political violence in North Kerala. While Mr A.K. Antony spearheaded the UDF’s road shows across the district, parliamentarians Smriti Irani, J.P. Nadda and Suresh Gopi hit the road for the BJP.

Vattiyoorkavu constituency was the hub of the showdown in the state as dozens of announcement vehicles blasted their loudspeaker to silence others. BJP workers on trucks organised milk showers on the cutouts of their state president Kummanam Rajasekharan.

At Balaramapuram, LDF and UDF workers clashed using flagpoles and stones during the final showdown. Balaramapuram Sub Inspector T. Vijayakumar suffered four stitches on his head after being hit by a stone, and Reji, a trainee police man from Anchal, was also injured.
