Siddaramaiah to push for AICC session in Bengaluru

Siddaramaiah is keen to host the event in June as a show of strength and unity.

Bengaluru: Buoyed by the 2-0 result in Assembly bypolls held in Nanjangud and Gundlupet, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will offer to host the plenary session of AICC in Bengaluru during his meeting with party vice president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.

Sources in the party said Mr Siddaramaiah is keen to host the event in June as a show of strength and unity and to galvanize the rank and file of the state unit in the run-up to next year's elections to the Legislative Assembly. In case he manages to convince the top brass, Bengaluru will play host for a AICC session for the third time. For, the 81st AICC plenary session was held here in 2001 when Mr S M Krishna headed the government with Palace Grounds, the venue, named "Rajiv Gandhi Nagar." This was preceded by the 65th sessions way back in 1960 when the state was ruled by a government led by the late Mr B D Jatti.
