Congress rules out support to AIADMK in RK Nagar bypoll

'The chances of Congress supporting a party politically are very very minuscule.'

Chennai: The Congress today ruled out supporting the AIADMK candidate in the April 12 RK Nagar bypoll.

AIADMK deputy general secretary T T V Dinakaran, also the party's candidate in the hustings scheduled next month, had earlier in the day welcomed the support of opposition parties, including the DMK and the Congress to defeat the former.

TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar, however, ruled out the possibility and recalled his party's support to the DMK in the bypoll.

"The chances of Congress supporting a party politically are very very minuscule. There is no possibility. We have already made our stand (of supporting DMK) clear," he told reporters here.

Dinakaran had earlier in the day insisted that the DMK was the AIADMK's main rival, while welcoming supports of other parties.

"The DMK is our rival and that is the policy of (party founder) MG Ramachandran and Amma. I am contesting from RK Nagar to prevent a DMK win and therefore will accept the support of others, whether it be the MDMK, the DMDK, the BJP or even the Congress," he had said.
