Temporary capital to cost Andhra Pradesh more

The two companies will construct six buildings for the temporary Secretariat covering 6 lakh square feet.

Vijayawada: Talks between the CRDA and contractors for construction of the temporary Secretariat concluded successfully on Sunday with the AP government agreeing to pay Rs 3,350 per square metre, against the previous offer of Rs 3,000. The two contractors, L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji, will have to complete the work by June 25 or pay a penalty.

They had sought a 25 per cent hike in the price, which was later negotiated with the government. The AP government had similarly cleared the Pattiiseema tenders on hiked bids. The two companies will construct six buildings for the temporary Secretariat covering 6 lakh square feet.

The deal will still have to be approved by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu which is expected to happen during Monday’s Cabinet meeting to be held at the CM’s camp office here.

According to sources, officials of CRDA and representatives of the two companies met on Sunday and formally agreed on the rate.

The works would be taken up with three packages and L&T has taken up two packages. Shapoorji Pallonji is yet to get clearance from its headquarters, sources said.
