Mahatma's killers want us to take patriotism lessons from them: Rahul

Speaking at the Assam rally, Gandhi said that Modi doesn't talk about the commitments he gave before Lok Sabha elections.

Guwahati: The Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here on Monday launched a frontal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS accusing them of trying to create communal divide to win the elections.

Addressing a public meeting at Titabor, the home constituency of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Gandhi said those who had killed Mahatma Gandhi are now trying to propagate 'one-nation, one-culture theory in the country'.

“If this is allowed to happen what will happen to your culture in Assam,” Gandhi asked, and added that “The killers of Mahatama Gandhi want us to take the certificate of patriotism from them.”

The Congress vice president who started his two-day visit to Eastern Assam, aimed at wooing tea-garden workers, also warned them to be careful of the Prime Minister's 'gimmick'.

He said, “The BJP government was trying to snatch away your subsidized ration and intends to stop MGNREGA and Right to Food Act which we started for the welfare of poor and downtrodden.”

Pointing out as to how BJP promised Rs 15 lakh to every Indians if voted to power, Gandhi said, “Modi does not talk about employment, inflation, or the other commitments that he gave before Lok Sabha elections.”

“Let him fulfill at least one commitment of giving Rs 15 lakh in the account of every Indian,” said Gandhi adding, “You will not see his photograph with poor and working class people as he works exclusively for few selected industrialists of the country.”

“You should be cautious, in this elections, he will come out with some new promises,” he also said.

Referring falling price of crude in the International market, the Congress leader said, “Its benefits has not been passed to the consumers, instead the government made money out of it. All the money has been gifted to industrialists of their choice.”

He said that BJP government led by Modi has failed to generate employment opportunity, and instead, have burdened the common man with inflation. “Modi does not talk about pulses costing Rs 200 a kg. He does not say as to how many employment his government has generated,” he said, highlighting various welfare schemes of UPA regime.

Gandhi, who will stay tonight at Sibsagar, is also expected to take part in a Padyatra besides holding consultations with the tea garden community leaders at Yuvadal Auditorium in Sivasagar district on Tuesday.
