Chhattisgarh Cabinet clears 18 lakh houses for poor

Raipur: Chhattisgarh cabinet on Thursday cleared the proposal to allot 18 lakh houses to the poor in the state under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY). This was one of the key promises made by BJP in the run up to the November assembly elections in Chhattisgarh.

The previous Bhupesh Baghel did not implement the PMAY depriving the poor in the state of the benefits under the scheme.

The BJP had made it a major issue in the recently held assembly elections in the state. “The cabinet has decided to provide 18 lakh houses to the poor in the state under PMAY. This is the only issue which was discussed in the cabinet meeting”, chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai told reporters here.

Sai also said that the bonus dues of 2017 and 2018 on sale of paddy to the government by the farmers in the state would be released on December 25 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee.

The bonus dues for 2017 and 2018 could not be given to the farmers by the previous Raman Singh government. The dues also could not be settled during the previous Bhupesh Baghel government.

The BJP had pledged to release the bonus dues to the farmers on December 25 if the party returned to power in Chhattisgarh.

The chief minister said that all the promises made by BJP before the assembly elections, branded as ‘(PM Narendra) Modi’s guarantees’ would be implemented in coming days.

Sai said that his government would review all the welfare schemes of the previous Bhupesh Baghel government before taking a decision if they would be dropped.
