Lok Sabha tickets no big deal in congress

There was a huge rush for Congress tickets as aspirants expected that the Prajakutami alliance would see them through.

Hyderabad: With the TRS sweeping the polls, some Congress leaders expect that there will be less competition for Lok Sabha tickets in the elections next year. Most Congress leaders have exhausted their resources in the Assembly elections.

There was a huge rush for Congress tickets as aspirants expected that the Prajakutami alliance would see them through. Former MPs like Sarve Satyanarayana, Mallu Ravi, Balram Naik, Ponnam Prabhakar and Suresh Shetkar grabbed tickets but only MLC Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy won.

A senior leader said that in some constituencies, the Congress has no other option than to field new candidates or go with the nominees who failed in the Assembly elections. There is also a financial crisis among the leaders. The Congress is not in power from five years in both Telugu state and the Centre. It is not easy to maintain cadre and fight the elections with a light purse. Many leaders expected that they would be in power and spent heavily during the Assembly elections. Now they are not ready to take out money for the Lok Sabha polls.

There may be competition for the Khammam Lok Sabha ticket considering the Prajakutami did so well there in the December 7 polls.
