TRS MLC may face rap for taking on MLA
NIZAMABAD: Disputes between TRS leaders in the Nizamabad (Rural) Assembly constituency have escalated. The party cadre is divided into three gro-ups led by MLA Bajireddy Govardhan, MLC R. Bhupathi Reddy and Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas respectively.
The TRS leadership has decided to take disciplinary action against Mr Reddy for allegedly intervening in the work of Mr Govardhan.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had previously warned Mr Reddy to cooperate with other leaders.
Mr Reddy has been working in the Niza-mabad (Rural) (formerly Dichpally) constituency since the inception of the TRS, except for a brief tryst with the Chiranjeevi-led Praja Rajyam. He was a strong contender for the MLA ticket of Nizamabad in the 2014 but the TRS nominated Mr Govard-han, who came in from the YSRC. The party placated Mr Reddy by giving him the MLC seat.
Mr Govardhan’s following consists of former Congress and YSRC leaders, while the TRS cadre supports Mr Reddy. These two groups have been unable to reconcile their differences. Mr Reddy and Mr Govardhan were involved in a fight at a public meeting in Khanapur two years ago.
As per protocol, the TRS high command has favoured Mr Govardhan in constituency-related affairs. Because of pressure from the TRS cadre, Mr Reddy has been actively participating in official and non-official party programmes. This has caused a few leaders to complain and demand disciplinary action against him.
