Take care of the basics needs, says Mohan Kanda
Hyderabad: Former chief secretary of undivided AP Mohan Kanda wants governments to address basic issues facing the people, especially drinking water, infant mortality, sale of babies and farmer suicides.
Requesting Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to take up these issues with the government, Mr Kanda said steps should be taken to end intolerance.
Mr Kanda, a 1968 batch IAS officer, was speaking after release of his book, Trekking Over Pebbles: Life through a Hyderabadi’s Looking Glass.
“Building a new capital, new Secretariat, Swachh Bharat are fine. But why are babies sold in Hyderabad? Why are women killed for honour,” he said. He said a law was passed 42 years ago on handling cyclones and urban flooding but no government barring Manipur and Rajasthan — which don’t generally face the problems — enacted it.
The Governor recalled his long association the former bureaucrat when he was Ongole superintendent of police and Kanda sub-collector.
