Kishan Reddy wants Telangana liberation centre in Hyderabad

\'The valour and courage shown by the people of Telangana state against the draconian Nizam is one of the momentous episodes in history\'

Union minister of state for home affairs G. Kishan Reddy has requested Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to allot land in Hyderabad for the construction of a motivation centre to commemorate the Telangana liberation movement.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Sunday, Reddy said that Union tourism minister Prahlad Singh Patel, had agreed to financially assist in setting up the centre.

‘I met the Union tourism minister recently and explained the people’s struggle to liberate Hyderabad region from the clutches of the tyrannical rule of the Nizam and his private army of Razakars and how the people collectively ensured its merger with the Indian Union.’

Kishan Reddy continued, “When India celebrated independence on August 15, 1947, the people of Telangana state were still languishing under Nizam rule, hounded by the Razakars. Their spirited and sustained struggle for over 13 months after Indian independence led to a police action, initiated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the liberation of the region.”

The valour and courage shown by the people of Telangana state against the draconian Nizam is one of the momentous episodes in the history of Indian freedom struggle, said Reddy. The movement was led by leaders from different walks of life, including P.V. Narasimha Rao, Marri Chenna Reddy, Swami Ramanand Tirtha, Doddi Komaraiah, Chakali Ilamma, Komaram Bheem, Vademataram Ramachandra Rao Narayan Rao Pawar and others.

The proposed centre would document the struggle and the contribution of the people and depict all the important episodes during the Telangana liberation movement in a manner that makes younger generations realise the significance of the movement and sacrifices of the leaders and inspire them.
