Top officials discuss on Narendra Modi-Xi Jinping meet in Mahabs

The three-day \'informal summit\' between the two leaders is slotted from October 11.

CHENNAI: With Mamallapuram, ancient port-city of the Pallavas near Chennai, being considered as a possible locale for the 'second informal summit' between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in October, top Tamil Nadu government officials held a discussion here on Friday.

Led by state chief secretary K. Shanmugam, and attended by among others the DGP J.K. Tripathy, home secretary Niranjan Mardi and Greater Chennai police commissioner K. Vishwanathan, other top officials including from state and Central Intelligence, IB, RAW, Tamil Nadu Q-branch police, besides officers from the SPG looking after the Prime Minister's security, officials from MEA and consular officers from both sides, the meeting took place at the Secretariat.

The officials discussed a whole range of issues including security, travel logistics from the airport to the possible venue of the meeting between Modi and Xi, places in Mamallapuram the two leaders could visit on the sidelines of the summit, informed sources told DC.

The three-day 'informal summit' between the two leaders is slotted from October 11, though there is no official word yet as to where the summit will be actually held as Varanasi, the Prime Minister's constituency is also being considered.
