Tamil Nadu: Unite, Sasikala tells party cadre

She asked the AIADMK cadre to take a fresh vow to protect Tamil Nadu and the party as in the past.

CHENNAI: Four days after the camp led by Edappadi K. Palaniswamy asked her to keep off party affairs, jailed AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala on Sunday wrote a letter to party cadres asking them to take a pledge to protect the ruling party and the state of Tamil Nadu from opposition parties.

With the number of MLAs and senior leaders supporting her and her nephew TTV. Dhinakaran dwindling, especially after last Thursday’s resolution terming Dhinakaran’s appointment as deputy general secretary “illegal”, Sasikala said the AIADMK cadre “can feel the love of an amma (mother) from me as you felt when Puratchi Thalivi Amma (Jayalalithaa) was alive.”

In the second such letter to party cadre from her cell in Parappana Agrahara prison, she asked the AIADMK cadre to take a fresh vow to protect Tamil Nadu and the party as in the past.

“The opposition party, which is down, is trying to get up with a stick hoping that there would be a breach in the iron fort called AIADMK. During the MGR centenary year, let us all take a vow to protect the party and Tamil Nadu as in the past,” Sasikala said.

The letter published in Namadhu MGR, which is under the control of Sasikala’s family members for now, is seen as a desperate attempt to assert her authority in the party where her supporters are dwindling day by day.
