Rebels allege scam in DMDK trust

The rebels alleged that they were receiving threatening calls not to join the DMK.

Salem: As the Captain’s party boat rocks in Tamil Nadu, rebel DMDK functionaries have alleged Rs 500 crore irregularities in DMDK’s Trust.
“We will move a public interest litigation in the Madras high court against the misuse of the DMDK Trust funds,” former DMDK leaders S.R. Parthiban and V.C. Chandrakumar told the media here.

On the eve of the Assembly elections held in May this year, the then sitting DMDK MLAs V.C. Chandrakumar and S.R. Parthiban had walked out of the party, protesting against the DMDK leader Vijayakanth’s decision to join the People’s Welfare Alliance.

With the DMDK losing deposit in all the constituencies it contested and even Vijayakanth getting trounced in his constituency, there is a steady flow of defections from the DMDK.

Chandrakumar and Parthiban have decided to join the DMK in the presence of the party leader M.K. Stalin at a function on July 17 along with at least 15,000 party cadres. The rebels alleged that they were receiving threatening calls not to join the DMK.

“We have lodged a complaint with the Erode SP about the threatening calls we have received. Vijayakanth is a hero only in films. But in real life, he is a villain,” Chandrakumar alleged.

DMDK treasurer A.R. Elangovan said that such charges were made at the behest of DMK to tarnish the image of the party.

“Do they have any proof to prove that the party earned Rs 500 crore? Party’s income and expense account are submitted to the I-T department and election commission,” he said.
