N Chandrababu Naidu, LV Subrahmanyam meet after bitter row

The meeting, which took place hours before the Election Commission gave permission for Mr Naidu’s proposed Cabinet meeting on Tuesda.

Vijayawada: Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday morning for the first time after he was appointed the state’s top bureaucrat by the Election Commission.

The meeting, which took place hours before the Election Commission gave permission for Mr Naidu’s proposed Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, lasted for almost an hour. The Chief Secretary is said to have briefed Mr Naidu about the procedure followed by his office on conducting the Cabinet meeting.

The ongoing war between Mr Subrah-manyam and the Chief Minister has divided bureaucrats into two groups. Amid a barrage of criticism from Mr Naidu, Mr Subrahmanyam did not attend the review meeting that the Chief Minister held to oversee arrangements made in the run-up of Cyclone Fani. The rule book says that no official should attend meetings convened by the Chief Minister without prior permission from the Election Commission while the election code is in place.
