Khammam: The TRS government gave permission to hike ticket prices for Bahubali-2 and provided tax exemption to the producers of the films Gauthamiputra Sathakarni and Rudramadevi, but was against giving subsidy to chilli, red gram and turmeric farmers, TS TD leader A. Revanth Reddy said on Saturday.

The farmers were arrested and handcuffed for asking remunerative prices, he said. Farmers had revolted against middlemen and traders who tried to buy chilli at cheaper prices. “It is highly condemneble to depict the attack by farmers as an act of rowdyism,” he said.

Mr Revanth Reddy said Rythu Poru, the dharna programme of the Telugu Desam to protest the arrest and handcuffing of chilli farmers, had evoked good response. Mr Revanth Reddy who staged a dharna from 10 am to 3 pm said no Cabinet ministers had made an attempt to know the truth behind the attack at the Khammam market yard.

“It has been proved that farmers themselves resorted to the attack. Now, Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao must come forward and wash the legs of the farmers as he had challenged,” he said. He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was not allowing TD legislators into the Assembly and arresting them while they were staging dharnas on farmer issues.
