Chennai police issue summons to 250 money-receivers'

On the SP's instructions, investigating officers have issued summons to 250 common people who allegedly took money for voting.

Madurai: In a shocking development, the Madurai rural police has issued summons to 250 common people who allegedly received money from the political parties in the run up to the May 16 Assembly elections.

Even as the district police arrested 21 political party functionaries including 13 from AIADMK in the last three days for attempting to bribe voters in various places and one woman for 'collecting' some money, the boot was on the other foot on Friday with district SP Vijayendra S. Bidari taking a tough line.

On the SP's instructions, investigating officers have issued summons to 250 common people who allegedly took money for voting. In another related development, CPI (M) functionaries protested near the Jaihindpuram police station demanding action against AIADMK men distributing money to voters.
