MLC polls held with high polling rates, minor incidents

Anantapur: A tense situation prevailed during Monday’s MLC elections for Teachers and Graduates constituencies in Rayalaseema West. Among minor incidents, a cash occurred at Lingala mandal in Pulivendula segment between YSRC and TD groups.

TD leader B. Tech Ravi’s car was damaged in stone-pelting when he resisted entry of YSRC leaders into a polling station. Rival groups clashed and pelted stones at each other. Police dispersed both the groups and took Ravi away with police protection.

Police arrested BJP leaders in Anantapur when they staged a protest at a polling station, alleging bogus voting.

Some 90 per cent polling was reported in YSR and 92 per cent in Annamayya districts while it was 91.84 in Anantapur district. For the graduate MLC seat, 76.29 per cent polling was recorded in Anantapur district and 72 in Kadapa district.

Kadapa MP, YS Avinash Reddy, cast his vote in Pulivendula while Anantapur urban MLA Ananta Venkatrami Reddy cast his vote in Anantapur. CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna cast his vote at Itikalapalli. Additional forces had been posted at all polling stations.
