Jagan to Start Political Tours For 2024 Polls

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, currently processing the fourth list of YSRC candidates, will embark on a mega election campaign from January 25. Jagan Mohan Reddy would first tour the North Andhra districts. He would hold regional meetings with party cadres in five regions of AP. The first regional cadres’ meeting would be held in Visakhapatnam and Bheemili.

There was major unrest among the party’s rank and file regarding the lack of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s interactions with the cadres, leaders and the public even as the countdown for the assembly and parliament polls would start soon.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has geared up the BJP machinery and is pre- occupied with his meetings and tours.

Meanwhile, TD chief and former chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is making public appearances, holding meetings with his cadre while Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan also joined the TD-JS campaign.

Political analysts note that it’s five years since Jagan Mohan Reddy mingled with the public. The Chief Minister spent all his time running the government. It’s high time for him to engage the public and safeguard the party from unforeseen situations.

Only around two months’ time is available for campaigns and planning the strategies. The last two months are crucial. “The starting of interactions with YSRC cadres and tour of districts by Jagan Mohan Reddy signal a good step forward.”

AP will have Assembly polls along with Parliament elections, probably in the last week of March or the first week of April.

Jagan Mohan Reddy as YSRC president has finalised constituency coordinators for 59 seats, including nine MP seats. He is yet to finalise the names for the remaining 16 MP seats and 125 MLA seats.

According to the trusted sources, Jagan Mohan Reddy will finalise the fourth list after the Sankranti festival and then lay out the route map for his political tours.

North Andhra plays a crucial role in the elections. Naidu and Pawan Kalyan toured Visakhapatnam and North Andhra several times. They also toured coastal districts including the Godavari districts where large numbers of Kapus are a deciding factor. Jagan Reddy is also planning a tour of the coastal districts.

YSRC regional coordinator Y.S. Subba Reddy said that five meetings of cadres and leaders will be held. Each meeting will involve four to six districts. The first such meeting will be held in Vizag Bheemili on Jan 25, in which Jagan Mohan Reddy would explain the YSRC’s political strategies and plans for the Mega 2024 elections. The programme for the other meetings will be finalised soon.
