Hyderabad: The TRS should leverage social media platforms for its campaign for the upcoming municipal polls, party’s working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Monday. Addressing TRS leaders and party workers involved in social media activities, Mr Rao called on them to make the most of the popular support for the TRS and stay away from trolling or spreading falsehoods like some other political parties.

“Some parties are trying to divide the society and communities. If someone does not subscribe to their ideologies, such people face terrible trolling. But we will only rely on truth, accurate information  and dignified behaviour online,” Mr Rama Rao said.

Some parties, he said, which have no popular support are making a lot of noise online but they will be taught a lesson in the elections by the people.

Mr Rama Rao also announced the appointment of young party leaders Krishank, Jagan, Dinesh and Satish as TRS’ social media coordinators for the municipal elections.

“We should effectively counter the falsehoods being spread by other parties. Unlike others, we do not believe in paid armies for our online presence. Social media has emerged as an effective communication tool, a strong alternative to traditional media,” he said.

The TRS, he said, had 11 lakh followers on its Facebook page and no other party has such a reach. People will vote based on the performance of the government and the benefits that have reached them. Unless there is actual performance on the ground, mere claims will not fool people, he said. If anyone from the TRS is targeted online by others, the party will stand by them, Mr Rama Rao added.
